Entrance to Sarawak Cultural Village |
Two days ago
a group of teachers and students of SK Sira Krian visited the Sarawak Cultural
Village which is nestled on the foothill of the legendary Mount Santubong about
100 km from Kuching City.
The scenery
around the area is impressive. It is a complete change from the hectic life of
city dwellers. Furthermore, the Sarawak Cultural Village is fronting the South
China Sea. The gentle breeze from the sea really freshens you up. Take a stroll
along the path which leads to the open view of the vast sea. There, you can also
see the sandy beach and the metal sculptured giant hornbill.

As for Sarawak Cultural Village,
you can see the traditional houses of the different ethnic groups living in
Sarawak. They comprise the Melanaus, the Malays, the Chinese, the Ibans and the
Orang Ulu. You can see them all under one roof. It is really amazing to see a
Bidayuh traditional house which is made of tree barks and bamboos. It is also an
experience indeed to cross a Bidayuh bamboo bridge which amazingly can support
the weight of more than 10 adults crossing at the same time.

Apart from the traditional
houses, other exhibits displayed include musical instruments, intricate
designs, wooden carvings, mats and handicrafts also attract visitors and earn
their admiration.
The highlight of the visit is
the cultural show which is presented by the different racial groups of Sarawak
at the concert hall. Most of the presentations are related to their traditional
dances. The Ngajat is well-known as it is the warrior dance of the Ibans. The
dance by the Orang Ulu has also won a lot of praises from the audience.

show has been a success in the sense that it has reached the audience about the traditional ways of life of the
different racial groups of Sarawak.
